this is absolutely incredible, i played it all today and adored every moment. i do have one question about a minor detail i noticed, what's with all the Esperanto references? i figured you might have an interesting reason behind it

(+10)

thank you! and yes, the esperanto thing comes from the history of the ESP-Disk music label - as the name suggests, it was initially founded to promote esperanto but became one of the most prominent early free jazz / experimental music labels from there. the label itself makes a cameo in Ears Of The Killer but i also just liked the idea of esperanto as a secret connecting sign of a new world that never quite arrived.

this game came to me at a difficult time in my life and it’s really helped me through it in a weird way. Sometimes i say “i’m gonna go hang out with bb” before i turn on the game

(+1)

genuinely one of my top ten favourite games ever

(1 edit) (+3)

A thought-provoking experience that really left an impression on me. Lots of memorable characters and it had me hooked the whole way through. Analyzing the meaning of each scene and experiencing all of the quirky humor was really fun and I'll miss popping on this game at 3 AM every night.

My personal Tier List: drool > face > hands > blood > ears > heart > eyes > flesh > voice
(drool's aesthetic was the coolest to me but face is probably the most well made)

Thank you for this wonderful game, I wish for the best in your future pursuits.

As an art student and future murder victim I relate heavily with BB.

(1 edit) (+2)

How do you just know you're a future murder victim

WHO HAVE YOU ANGERED? 😨

(+4)

for those of us who have gone through the rest of thecatamites' catalogue and are still hungry for more stories to capture that "anthology of the killer" charm, i've been reading the grant morrison doom patrol comics and they come pretty close. the surrealist settings the characters end up getting caught in are very killeresque, and the villains-- mr. nobody in particular-- feel exactly like the pompous ideologues whose nonsense bb would have to deal with. i seriously need to do some crossover fanart with these series, they have a lot of differences but they match up so well

(+9)

I don't even know how to begin writing like this guy does. Thecatamites is my #1 inspiration for making video games

(-6)

the "of the killer" games were made by garmentdistrict. i'm not sure what thecatamites did, i think he's the publisher

(+6)

i am pretty sure garmentdistrict and thecatamites are the same person

(+2)

interesting!

(+4)

yes, they're the same person, real name stephen gillmurphy

(+1)

An incredibly original and enjoyable series of games.

(+5)

The cutest and kookiest vehicle for slow burn existential horror I've ever played... an experience that made me genuinely grateful to be alive yet also want to get murdered (for drama and aesthetics)

(+1)

Played this slowly over the course of 2 months and wow what a satisfying game/zine. Such a good way to do it. The art, music, and writing are very immersive and actually I think gave me a bit of brain damage—but in a good way.

(+1)

I don't think I've ever played a game so in-tune with my own sense of humor. Consistently hilarious. Also deserves more credit for tackling some really interesting philosophy. Will make you think a lot more than you'd expect. Best game I've played in a while, highest recommendation.

(+8)

I regret to inform you that you have made the perfect game.

(+2)

What can I say? It's quirky but it gets the job done.

(1 edit) (+4)

Finished it through a weekend and it's such an astonishing ride!

Really hope there could be some community localization support, since now I feel a great impulsion of translating the game to Chinese (although it may be impossible to achieve by my own)

(+5)

the writing makes me feel dumb but in an "i someday want to be smart enough to understand everything this game has to say" way

my main problem with the game is that it doesn't have a save feature, when you get to the later games they get longer, and i got stuck on geometry so i had to quit and start over. but other than that the game is flantastic.

(+3)

This is now one of my favorite games, thank you for making it (and space funeral to lol)

(+3)

kinda reminds me of old 90s simpsons.

(+5)(-2)

Now this takes me back to the old days of the web, but with less slurs and risk of getting a pron virus after trying to pirate lego soccer. It's very comfy

(+3)(-1)

So very glad to have seen this on a Vinesauce stream – it's some of the most Sunday Stream content to ever hit a weekday. You can really smell the DNA of Space Funeral all over this and vice-versa. I've had to excitedly show this to all my music snob and Weird-Menace-appreciating friends like I'm a cat bringing its owner gifts of miscellaneous leaf litter and dead slugs.

(+8)

Probably one of my favorite games I've ever played. It's beautiful in a way I didn't expect video games could be. The writing is intelligent and brilliantly absurd. It made me incredibly emotionally and I still don't understand why. I love these games. I love BB. Thank you thank you thank you. If anyone is reading this and looking for a recommendation, please please please play this game.

(+6)(-1)

I only recently learned you also made Space Funeral. I thought my opinion of your talent couldn't get any higher. You are one of the rare creative geniuses which enter into this world every half-century or so. I'm appreciative to be around for it.

genius is only rare because most of them get killered

Using Pop!_OS and the Linux zip doesn't appear to have a supported executable. I figure there may be work-arounds like using the WIN32 but is there a way to get the LNX zip's contents working?

(+2)

I'm also using Pop!_OS and the Linux zip works fine for me. Have you tried making the .x86_64 file executable?

(+1)

Thank you for your response, this worked perfectly. I'm new to Linux and was unfamiliar with needing to fiddle with permissions sometimes.

(+2)

this is maybe some of the most spernacular crambache i've seen in my life. Thank you ♥️

(+5)

Really incredible. Constantly one-ups itself, leading up to an incredibly heartfelt fever nightmare of an ending. Can't recommend enough.

(+3)

I'm glad I bought stock in Of The Killer early.

(+1)

peak

(1 edit) (+3)

In the end, we are all "Of the Killers" killers...

I cant claim to understand the broader context of everything but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Keep on killin' it dude, if you make any more of this I'll send over a pizza guy who will then stab you... with love! Or maybe he's just going to make you bleed a lot, either way, thanks for making this. It twas a truly memorable experience that my eyeballs will never forget

(+5)

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be pierced by meditations on culture's inescapable relationship with violence.

(+1)

really engaging, makes me smile. love it

(+2)

this game brought me so much joy so many times while i played it, like eureka style recognition of something blah blah i haven't smiled so much all year. you are the people's hero for only charging $6 but i wish there was a button i could press whenever i had $6 and don't really need it desperately, so i could give you $6 for every time this game made me really really really happy while i was playing it... i bought a copy for my friend so that's a start

(+1)

I love the bonus rooms

(1 edit) (+8)

He's a pretty good killer but I think I still think Murder Dog is the head of the class in homicide.

(+3)

yeah but murder dog got caught

I'm having an issue on my macbook where text is cutoff. When I launch the game, only one resolution option is available and playing in windowed mode doesn't work either :(

hey, sorry you're having an issue! are you able to try downloading the non-v1.1 version of the mac app and then running the console command here? https://thecatamites.itch.io/anthology-of-the-killer/devlog/739142/notes-on-mac-...

(+1)

This is an issue with the Mac version's default aspect ratio. Going into windowed mode and manually resizing your window to be taller by dragging the corner fixes this (as of 1.1).

History is a drinky bird, continually murdering the water

(+1)

This is such an instant classic of a comedy horror series (for me at least). It's packed full of references and funny characters, with writing that is both accessible and thought provoking.

(+7)

It's the "playing Anthology of the Killer" thing. All the young people love it.

(2 edits) (+3)

Everything is so absurd, and it all works together beautifully. The world building is so well done to where even a world where such bizarre and extreme things can happen still feels like it all makes sense. Besides a couple of areas where I got lost due to poor lighting (combined with janky pathing, pathing in low-lit areas is usually quite intuitive) or camera weirdness, both of which happened extremely rarely, everything flowed together seamlessly. I think that the Anthology really is a masterpiece, no exaggeration...I will be thinking about this game for a very long time.

(+4)

Simply a fantastic game. BB & the other characters are engaging, the soundtrack is fantastic, the world building is immense and I love the dream-like atmosphere. It reminds me of my own dreams that I've had.

It's a 10/10 game in my eyes & it gets my full recommendation for anyone looking at the reviews, it is absolutely worth your time & 6 quid.

I am definitely going to replay this at some point.
